It can be if the user or addict is not aware that many traps, some of them created by him, lie ahead.
Let’s list some of them:
When starting a new therapy, the degree of enthusiasm and stimulation increases because a new circumstance has been created and this generates optimism.
Believing in advance that you can quit whenever you want, even being deeply convinced of it and programming yourself to do so. Until the day or situation X arrives and you are consumed again.
Developing ideas such as: from such and such a day I won’t use any more, when I get this I will stop using, if I stop x I will also stop using.
Considering that a normative and traditional life is the right way to stop using. The equation ‘house-partner-children-dog-pool + barbecue friends’ or ‘economic and professional success that allows me to…’ is not the solution.
The consumer or addict, on many occasions, has complex needs due to the fact that their brain has reached high levels of stimulation and therefore trying to flatten them excessively can be counterproductive.
Consider that adaptation to external circumstances and the approval of the environment are enough to keep them from using.
In the case of highly successful professionals with or without public projection, consider that without certain substances they will not be able to continue to sustain it.
To these could be added a few more.
To be able to stop using cocaine requires more than a great effort, it requires a thorough work that takes into account the essential nature as well as the psychic peculiarities of each person.
Needs, desires, wishes, longings, rejections, renunciations, secret motivations, repressed emotions, fears, resentment, guilt, all these are aspects to be taken into account and analysed. Because, among other elements, all these emotions may hold the key to change.
